George Smith of Mount Vernon struck the cruiser after evading officers from Mount Vernon all the way to the Bronx on Sunday, Nov. 18.

Westchester County District Attorney Anthony A. Scarpino, Jr. announced Smith’s arraignment on a variety of charges relating to the theft and subsequent police chase. Smith is charged with three class D felonies, including second-degree assault, criminal possession of stolen property and reckless endangerment.

Westchester County Police initially alerted Mount Vernon Police to a stolen car that was being driven around the city. While Mount Vernon Police tried to stop the vehicle, Smith drove away and entered the Hutchinson River Parkway southbound. Approximately eight minutes into the chase, the vehicle allegedly slammed into the Westchester County Police patrol car.

Police say Smith was stopped around 4230 Boston Post Road in the Bronx. Over one hour later, Westchester County Police were able to locate Smith in the area and take him into custody.

Smith is scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 3 in Mount Vernon City Court.
